Games are an effective tool for clinicians to build rapport with clients. They can be so much more than that though too. When used effectively, they are a powerful therapeutic tool. This course covers common pitfalls and benefits to using games in therapy. Case examples and practical applications are discussed for various diagnoses and in a recorded video format.
Areas of focus for the course will include the impact of using games with minors in a 1:1 setting. From there, how to select the right game for the client and a clinical example is used. Research on the current understanding of the effects of game use in therapy are discussed to understand why games can be effective. The clinical use of these strategies, specific games used, will be shared by Dr. Rachel Hughes throughout this course.
