Games are a wonderful resource for helping counselors improve family connectedness, child social skills, resilience for kids involved in parental divorce, and reducing ADHD symptoms. Research on the proper use of games in therapy is discussed. A 6 step model of how to use games therapeutically is described including a real case example for the application of various types of games. This includes how to pick the right game, some thoughts on how to find games that fit your client's goals and clinical strategies are discussed. Pro tips and common pitfalls are also reviewed in order to help clinicians with their use of games in the therapy session.
